I have a pop-up and when we went to the dealer where we bought it, they told us that we couldn’t hang things from the ceilings, like those cute baskets and those wire shelves. Do I have to do anything special to be able to hang stuff from the ceiling? I have seen those special selves you can buy which would make for more room, but they said we couldn’t do that to ours. I know there has to be a way. Its either that or I buy a bigger camper.

I think it depends on the type of ceiling you have, and how handy the person is that is doing the mods hehe. Our Starcraft has a collapsable bar hanger that you are supposed to be able to hang clothes from. This is what I hang my hanging basket from. I am sure you will hear from some of the guys as to the mods they have made. I have seen some wonderful ideas. I know Duane has quite a few mods on his website. If he doesn’t come on and see this, I’ll post his site for you.

I have shelves and baskets on my ceiling, but I have also replaced the whole ceiling has been replaced with 3/8″ beaded plywood because of a leak we had. You could build a shelf system using the wire racks and PVC pipes that could sit on the counter or floor and go up to the ceiling. You could then attach a hook or strap to secure it without supporting all the weight. Be sure you don’t glue all the joints so you can break it down for travel. Just a thought. If you’re looking for mod ideas, check out my site. I have a few I’ve done out there.

One of the best modifications that I saw was on a web site where the guy took a spring loaded pole (think spring loaded shower curtain, but stronger, like from Home Depot) and put it near the roof of the popup – inside the box top (still with me?). The guy used that to hang things on, towels, etc. I’m going to use heavy duty velcro to hang a “over the door shoe rack” on the same box top – to hang keys, glasses, tissues, etc. Once I have it installed, I’ll post pictures for you to see. The problem with the roof of the popup is that they aren’t very strong. Heavy items could pull right out.

The Spring loaded shower curtain idea is great, they also have thinner ones, like for curtains, not as big in diameter. Those maybe found in the Curtain rod section of a store.
